I’ve been using Evernote for a while to keep track of ideas and notes and in particular the hundreds of business cards I get from meetings. It can sometimes get a little difficult to manage all my data, but Ive found evernote a great way to have basic data and ideas hosted with quick easy access.

I looked into things like MindMap software, but I liked the simplicity and price Evernote, not to mention the image and iphone stuff. (I take a lot of pictures of whiteboards and business cards and Evernote helps me search through the text therein… sometimes).

Research Tools

I love this tool. It will provide a general idea for the search frequency of terms (how popular a keyword is). The numbers provided by the tool should not be used as an exact measurement, but as a trending tool to divide lower traffic phrases from higher traffic phrases. It also shows competitive rates of the tool. Great for discovering your next niche.

Quantcast is a great tool that you can use to find the demographics of your audience. This tool allows you to gather traffic statistics and demographics data for any existing sites on the Internet.
Small and moderate sized sites are not as well documented as are major authority sites. So think about this, you want to do an advertising campaign selling body building products. You go and find a top ranking website that already sells such products, enter the domain details and Qauntcast the tells you the age group of visitors to the competing top ranking site. How cool is that... so you can now advertise to that demographic only, saving you bundles in pay per click ads, whilst really homing in on your audience.

Alertpay is a Canadian company that has been around since 2004 and operates under the supervision of the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC) and the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN). Alertpay can be a great alternative to Paypal. Just as Paypal, you only need to have an email address in order to send people money and the good thing here is that it is available in far more countries than Paypal. Importantly it is available in the US thus making it very attractive for people that are seeking to conduct business with US clients. And it also allows for Direct Sales structures, which Paypal does not like.

Hostgator is my favourite hosting company. This is based on 3 things. 1) its really cheap. 2) you have Cpanel... ill explain in a bit. and 3) its really reliable. Cheao is self explanatory. Cpanel is a must for Wordpress installation. You can of course do without both word-press and Cpanel, but if you ever want to install word-press, then Cpanel makes it a breeze.. trust me ive tried them all. Service; well what can I say. Not only is therei text chat support excellent, of the 5 years I've used them Ive only noticed the service down once. As I have over 300 domains, this is important to me.

1& is a giant web hosting company. and they have never let me down. They have almost 6 million customers and more than 2,400 employees, and in excess of 37,000 servers. Whilst not the cheapest, they are definitely an industry leader and a well supported and stable company in the web hosting industry. 1&1 offers a few main service types: domain registration, mail hosting, Linux hosting, Windows hosting, virtual private servers, dedicated servers, eshops, and Microsoft Sharepoint hosting. Having said not the cheapest, the company’s offerings are still quite inexpensive. There control panel and email set up is much easier than host gators, but word-press install is a pain in the ass.
